New updates and improvements to the Genoverse
Below are some of the items the Genopets team has worked on over the past few weeks. We’re pulling back the curtain to show you, fellow Genovians, what goes into making a game.
Hey Genovians,
It's been a while—our team has been heads down the last several months, redesigning the battle interface, battle game rules, bug fixing, a new landing page, a new trailer, and a whole new game mode—and we're excited to share some major updates on the development of the Age of Discovery feature.
This new feature has been a long time dream and a challenging endeavor, but thanks to technological advances like Generative AI, we're making it a reality. This feature will not only incentivize you to walk more but also give you the ability to earn Energy, making your adventures even more rewarding. More information on the game mechanics behind Age of Adventure will be shared in the future. For now enjoy this sneak peek into the design process for building the feature.
A Glimpse into the Design Process
Bradley (formerly Ben) and the rest of the Genopets team have been diving deep into AI, wondering if it could help bring the Genoverse to life. So, we gave it a shot and the result has been pretty amazing.
Exploring New Horizons
Using AI, Bradley found he could take any old picture…
And make it surreal.
He could make it more alien…
He could even make it more bio-luminescent.
So he continued experimenting, wondering if he could do this with urban settings.
Spoiler alert, he could and it worked pretty well. Check it out.
But if you know Bradley and his vision for Genopets, you know that “pretty well” isn’t good enough. So he kept working, seeing if he could crank up the results a notch.
It's safe to say that the results were incredible. And this made him think—could we bring his wild dream from six years ago to life? Using this technology, could we place you in the Genoverse, making you feel like you’re exploring another world with your Genopet?
Designing the Experience
After Bradley showed the team what he was able to create using AI tools, we decided that an Adventure Mode feature would be an amazing addition to the mobile app. So Bradley jumped into Figma and started designing.
When he began initial designs, Bradley experimented with the idea of overlaying the world with hexagons. Maybe players could unveil the Genoverse within that hexagon to earn Energy? Maybe in the future, players could battle to claim ownership of the space?
Bradley, along with the UI/UX and Dev teams, spent weeks designing, prototyping, and testing technical feasibility. They worked to figure out how to wrangle the API and design around load times and latency, battery drain and inflationary concerns, adoption and a million other 100iq questions.
As is expected, throughout the process the original designs were thrown out the window and new ones were developed to make the feature more user-friendly.
After numerous iterations and simplifications, we ended up with something elegant.
What's Next?
We are thrilled about the possibilities that Age of Adventure will bring to our community. We are still in the process of testing and fine-tuning this feature, but know that we are building as fast as possible and can't wait for you to experience the magic of exploring the Genoverse with your Genopet.
