​New updates and improvements to the Genoverse

Below are some of the items the Genopets team has worked on over the past few weeks. We’re pulling back the curtain to show you, fellow Genovians, what goes into making a game.

Note: most items below, unless noted, are not final. Many things that we share in Status Reports will include early renderings, prototypes, or explorations so please keep that in mind when sharing thoughts.


Discord Announcement — In light of recent events…

In light of recent events in the Solana ecosystem that have impacted the Genopets Community over the past 48 hours, we decided to postpone the launch of Habitat Management originally scheduled for today to Wednesday 8/10/2022 at 15:00 UTC. Our condolences go out to all affected.

Wen Habitat? — Get ready for all the ways to earn

We officially announced the new launch date for Habitat Management. If you’re in the beta now, your ability to start earning begins Wednesday 8/10/2022 at 15:00 UTC.

Habitat Management will land on the Inventory tab of Mainframe for current private beta players starting 08/10/2022 at 15:00 UTC. If you’re in one of the qualified groups of private beta testers your head start begins this week.

After that, invite codes will start going out to more players on the waitlist weekly so everyone can start playing the game. Everyone won’t be invited at once, but more and more players will get invited every week as we test and monitor a healthy rate of growth.

A love story built in Web3 — Genopets and Magic Eden choose each other in a world of marketplaces

The love between our interns may have been lost, but it’s burning strong for Genopets and Magic Eden. We’ve officially partnered with Magic Eden as the marketplace for all things Genopets.

What does this mean for you?

  • A Better Experience — Players can buy and sell SFTs in quantities with a single click
  • Lower Minting Fees — SFTs use fewer resources because they share a single “Mint Account” on Solana

In the constantly evolving world of Web3, it’s hard to stay on top of all the latest advancements. That’s why we cooked up a quick little ditty with Magic Eden about the basics you need to know about SFTs (Semi-Fungible Tokens if you were still wondering).

Here’s the TL;DR for those of us with the attention span of a 🐟

  • SFTs are like a cousin to NFTs
  • NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token and refers to assets that are 1 of 1
  • SFT stands for Semi-Fungible Token and refers to assets that can be minted in quantities greater than 1
  • What does that mean? Multiple SFTs can have the same mint address and still be stored on the blockchain
  • Why should you care? SFTs are useful in Web3 gaming where users can collect stackable items

Discord friends meet for the first time — Albert hosted a meetup before the IVS Conference in Tokyo

Albert was in Japan to speak at the IVS Conference in Tokyo during the week of July 16th. On a whim, he and Happy Burger — our Japanese channel mod — planned a meetup with members of the Genopets Community. Over 20 people came from all over Japan to participate in a 1-hour Q&A followed by DNA promotion, baby pet minting, and Habitat Management.

And the fun didn’t stop there. Even though the event was only scheduled for 3 hours, Albert and the community were having so much fun they hung out for over 7 hours. 🤯

Albert learned a lot from our community and has shared his insights with the team. We can’t wait to institute his learnings as we continue a game centered on our community 🥰

A few other highlights:

  • There is nothing to say other than these Reagent animations are pure magic ✨
  • Stage 6 bodies have gone through 3D modeling and Stage 5 Special Augments Bee and Lava Set have gone through Color Review
  • A cross-team collaboration has ended in a sick level up experience
  • And when your pets are ready to evolve, you’ll both get to experience the beautiful evolution sequence our insanely talented designers created
  • Our art team has been working HARD ideating and sketching augments for your pets. And let us just say, they are looking 💯
  • It’s just as important to be mentally strong as it is physically. Keep your pet’s brain sharp with the Twisty Puzzle Cube that just went through 3D modeling
  • And for all you football fans, get excited to play fetch with this intergalactic football (that may or may not also be influenced by 🥕)
  • Always striving to give our community a better experience, Ben updated bank button sounds in the app
  • Some delicious designs have been started for yummy treats your pet will get to enjoy — including broccoli, mushroom and bamboo seeds
