UPDATE: Based on community feedback and our analysis of Energy earnings over the past few weeks, we've decided to revert the changes we made to how energy decay rates are calculated. The changes described below will still be implemented at a later date when there are more ways to earn Energy to ensure a balanced healthy economy.

Just like your Genopet, Genopets is evolving. At our last town hall, we announced a number of intended changes coming to the game economy and mechanics to grow the economy, simplify the web3 crafting and harvesting aspects of the game, and set the community up for success as we continue to grow. Over the past few weeks we’ve held open conversations with the DNA community on Discord and solicited feedback from the most active members of the community; the takeaways from these have shaped the final implementation details of the intended changes.

That’s why we’re introducing the Energy 2.0 changes you’ll read about below. Next week, we’ll also release an article about the new Harvesting/Habitat Rework changes discussed on the Town Hall too.

We’ve worked hard to develop changes that balance game mechanics, health research, and the overall ecosystem.

Our goals with these changes are to:

  • Align game design more closely with healthy habits (based on research).

    • Walking 20k+ steps daily is not optimal for a healthy walking habit

    • Walking ~8k steps per day is most commonly recommended by reputable sources. Passive step-banking should support this.

  • Reward consistency and decrease the amount of Energy gained passively.

    • E.g., there is more E to be earned from daily banking with streaks than banking a lot of steps in a single day

  • Strengthen habit-building loop by rewarding deeper engagement and more intentional play.

    • E.g., players can earn more Energy from proactively engaging with proposed Challenges

  • Fix the economic incentive structure (KI Harvesting) to curtail unchecked token inflation and better reward players who have the highest stake in the ecosystem.

And most importantly, reward OG Genovians the most who have been actively playing the game for nearly two years now since our first alpha tests, growing and supporting the community from the start.

A defined timeline has not been set for the implementation of these changes, we expect an updated release in the coming month, but will be announced in advance. Once implemented, we’ll update the whitepaper. Until then, these articles are your best source for information.

Energy 2.0

Step Efficiency Ratings

Step Efficiency Ratings have been decreased for the majority of Genopet levels. As a result, Energy gained from passive step banking will generally be reduced across the board. But don’t worry. Additional opportunities to earn Energy, including streaks and challenges, will make up the difference.

Below are a snapshot of the new values. Old values can be found in whitepaper. The full list of values will be published in the whitepaper once implemented.

Daily Step-Banking Streak Achievements will be repeatable and award Energy. New Streak achievements will be added so that there are more chances for players to earn Energy by continuing their daily step-banking streak. Bolded achievements are new.

Streak Achievements are not mutually exclusive and can be completed progressively. E.g., if a player banks 7 days in a row, they will receive the reward for completing both the 3-day and 7-day achievements.

For Streak Achievements, higher-stage pets will receive more Energy for completing the same achievement.

The stage-based Energy reward multipliers for streak achievements are as follows:

E.g., if a Level 10 Genopet (Stage 2) banks 3 days in a row, they will receive 1,800 Energy (instead of the base 1,500).

Challenges

As part of Energy 2.0 we will be shipping a new Challenges feature. Players will receive periodic (daily, weekly, etc.) in-game challenges inside the mobile app. Completing these challenges will award the player additional prizes, including Energy and potentially items.

Final Thoughts

The Energy 2.0 update further strengthens the healthy habit building loop of the game for players rewarding consistency over volume. By adjusting Step Efficiency Ratings and introducing daily Step-Banking Streak Achievements, players will be encouraged to develop consistent and healthy walking habits. Additionally, the new Challenges feature will provide more opportunities for players to engage and earn rewards.

These changes are designed to improve the overall game experience and support the growth of the Genopets project. Keep an eye out for the updated whitepaper and continue banking your steps for maximum Energy until these changes are implemented.
