TL;DR There are currently 6 types of NFTs in Genopets — Genesis Genopets, Regular Genopets, Genesis Habitats, Regular Habitats, Crystals (5 elements), and Terraform Seeds.

A recent article from App Annie states that players downloaded 30% more mobile games per week in the first quarter of 2021 than in the fourth quarter of 2019 (pre-pandemic), reaching over 1 billion game downloads per week. Additionally, TechCrunch affirms that mobile gaming will increase its global position over computer gaming and continue extending its lead over console gaming this year.
And, I mean, it makes sense — between having to balance work, school, and endless zoom meetings amidst a global pandemic, it’s no wonder we need a little shot of dopamine here and there. Mobile games provide fresh stimuli that give us a break — a little refresher to keep us going. That being said, as humans, sometimes we can go a little overboard (as we all know).
Mobile gamers often spend upwards of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on in-game purchases. Whether we need to buy the latest skins, OP weapons, or whatever other shiny things we can get our hands on, the money we spend on our digital escapades adds up. And the worst part is, when you decide to stop playing those games, your investment becomes a loss — all that time spent grinding and all those impulsive purchases — null.
At the end of the day, it truly is a tragedy to see such beautiful digital artwork that game creators worked so hard to make, that you worked so hard to acquire, go to waste. Luckily, NFTs might actually be able to solve that problem.
That sounds great! But what is an NFT?
Great question! An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a unique asset that lives in an immutable and tamper-proof public digital ledger called a blockchain. NFTs can be used to represent photos, videos, audio, and any other digital masterpieces you can contrive.
To mint your NFT, you’ll embed it with a smart contract to declare ownership and manage its transferability. This will grant you instant provenance and dominion over the NFT you’ve just given eternal life to. When you own an NFT, you are leaving your mark on a pretty big piece of history. Once you’ve minted your Genopet (among other Genopets NFTs), you can hold it in your digital wallet or choose to sell or trade it in the open marketplace.
Residing on the blockchain, NFTs are currently the most permanent objects that exist. And because they’re non-fungible, their value can’t be exchanged like-for-like.
For Example:
Bitcoin is fungible; if you trade someone 1 BTC for 1 BTC, you leave with the same thing. If, however, you and another person were to trade Pokémon cards, and you tried to trade your THIS for their PSA gem mint 10 1st Edition Holo Charizard, they’d probably have to slap you. I’m sorry.
Furthermore, just like trading cards, NFTs aren’t tied to anything but market demand. The rarer something is, the more valuable it becomes.

The Different Types of Genopets NFTs You Will Encounter
The primary way of earning in Genopets is through the collection and trade of in-game assets. As a completely free player, the tradable NFT that you are awarded is your Genopet. As you nurture, grow, and battle with your Genopet, the term “digital familiar” will become an increasingly accurate representation of your relationship with it. We understand how difficult it can be to part with something as highly cherished as your spirit animal, so here’s a list of the Genopets NFTs that you can hold, trade, and sell in the open marketplace:
Genopet NFT
A Genopet is a generative spirit animal NFT that sports a uniquely marked body with eight variable bionic features and extremities, falling under the category of one of five elemental types. All players may summon and hatch their Genopet for free. Starting as an infant, your Genopet can traverse 77 levels of upgrades and 12 stages of material evolution with an endless amount of customization to make it unique and your own. Genopets grow and evolve based on the XP you earn battling with friends, soloing PvE bosses, walking your dog, and going on your after-dinner jog. As you invest your time and effort, your Genopet will naturally increase in value. Keep your Genopet happy with head pats and keep it healthy by keeping it and its environment clean. As you evolve in life, your Genopet will follow.
Genesis Genopets is a special collection of the first 3218 Genopets ever created. These Genopets start at level 22 and are pre-evolved to stage 4. They are the only Genopets ever to be in this collection and are regarded as the OG’s, the original Genopets NFTs ever created.
Augment NFT
The NFT version of an Augment is a generative accessory NFT that you can use to enhance your Genopet’s physical attributes and performance values. Due to the cybernetic nature of Genopets, you can swap their body parts for a more pleasing appearance and better performance values. Think Mr. Potato Head, but cyberpunk…and well, omnipotent spirit animals. So, if you don’t want a stock Genopet, complete PvE quests to unlock special body modifications.
Please note: The Augments that free players earn through PvE battles differ from those acquired by Habitat owners. Though all Augments are used to enhance your Genopet’s physical attributes and performance values, free players unlock Augments, not Augment NFTs. Thus, they can be used in battle but cannot be sold or traded unless you purchase a permanent home for your Genopet.
Habitat NFT
Habitats are for players looking to further their advancement in-game and secure a successful evolution. In addition to unlocking a dual-token earning economy, A Habitat is a beautiful generative 3d vivarium NFT that promotes the growth of your Genopet by unlocking epic Augment NFTs and generating type-specific unrefined crystals daily. Players can own up to three Habitats per wallet. Also, If you don’t keep your habitat well-maintained, it will begin to be taken over by nanobots and halt all crystal production. Habitats come in specific elemental classes (fire, wood, earth, metal, and water) and spawn unrefined crystals that correspond with the elemental class, then refine them into Genotype Crystals using the Laboratory. Obtained through the Genopets Treasure Hunt, a Genesis Habitat, is a limited, first-edition Habitat NFT that has a special Genesis emblem, receives a KI Token earning boost, and spawns all 5 classes of unrefined crystals.
Genotype Crystal NFT
The unrefined elemental crystals generated by your Habitat are not NFTs, but one of the precursors to the alchemy of the Genoverse. Once obtained, players can bring them to the Laboratory to undergo a refining process. Once refined, they become Genotype Crystal NFTs. Genotype Crystals are one of the basic building blocks for crafting in the Genoverse, spanning common to mythic NFTs. Genotype Crystals allow you to form new Habitats and change the Elemental Class of your Genotype, altering its appearance and moveset with the corresponding crystal. You may use Genotype Crystals to guide the evolution of your Genopet.
Terraform Seed NFT
Once you own a Habitat, you will then have the ability to form new Habitats in-game. So, if you want to collect a larger variety of Gene Crystals (to either sell in the open marketplace or change your Genopet’s physical attributes and battle movesets) you can terraform new Habitats so long as you can produce the ingredients for the Habitat Recipe: Terraform Seed+Gene Crystal+GENE Tokens+KI Tokens.
App Annie reports that mobile game players spent a record-breaking $1.7 billion per week on mobile gaming purchases throughout this pandemic. And unfortunately, they don’t even technically own anything they bought in-game. So, instead of dumping your time and money into a virtual vortex, you can now spend it on assets that hold actual value, and when you’re ready, you can resell them for actual money.
