New updates and improvements to the Genoverse!
Below are some of the items the Genopets team has worked on over the past few weeks. We’re pulling back the curtain to show you, fellow Genovians, what goes into making a game.
Note: items below, unless noted, are not final. Most things we share in Status Reports include early renderings, prototypes, or explorations, so please keep that in mind when sharing thoughts.
Don’t be a terrible parent!—Remember to feed and play with your Genopet now that Feed and Fetch have launched
The Feed and Fetch mini-games have arrived, and your Genopet is more excited than ever! I mean, who wouldn’t be? No more grumbly tummies in the Genoverse…hopefully…as long as you all remember to play the mini-games…😅
To get playing, just click on the Feed or Fetch icons in the top right corner of the app.
Remembering to Bank is now more important than ever, as you’ll need the Food and Toys from Banking Rewards to play these mini-games and keep your Genopet in a good mood—currently, your Nurture Actions won’t affect Step Efficiency, but in future updates, they will. So get in the Habit of keeping those three rings full and green BEFORE you Bank.
And remember, just like all games, Feed and Fetch have a learning curve. Don’t stress if it takes time to master the game. You receive all the Items you need for free and will continue to get more every day you Bank more than 1,000 steps.
We’re not just listening. We’re taking action—App update v0.5.1 will implement updates based on your feedback
Genopets is built in the open because we want our players to be part of the process. We’ve received lots of feedback since app update v0.5.0 was released, and we would be grateful if you kept it coming!
Most recent feedback relates to the Feed and Fetch mini-games—many people have stated they are having trouble mastering the Nurture mini-games. We’ve been taking every comment to heart and are diligently working to change the mini-games to help you succeed. We’ve created tutorial videos and have been measuring success data. At launch, the average success rate sat around 50%, but our goal is to have the number reach 90% plus. As such, we’re simplifying the game experience and tutorials—intending to make the Nuture mini-games easy to play for most but still challenging and fun!
We’ll also be implementing changes to the mini-games based on your feedback.
The next app update will include:
- Practice Items so you and your Genopet can get in sync. You’ll be able to practice Feed and Fetch with your Genopet using infinite practice Items. No need to stress about throwing your Food and Toys until you’ve got the hang of the mechanic.
- An increase to the hitbox size. We're increasing the hitbox so that its more forgiving.
- A decrease to the speed of Feed and Fetch indicators. The rate of the hexagon transitions in the Feed game and the sliding indicator in the Fetch game will be updated so that it is easier to release Items at the right time.
- A value rating display for Nutrition and Joy Items. Are your Nutrition and Joy Rings completely empty? Want to know which Food or Toy will increase your Genopet’s ratings the fastest? Value ratings under each Item will let you know so you can always pick the perfect Food or Toy.
- The ability to play the mini-game again with the same Food or Toy without needing to scroll through all of your options.
